Raised Garden Beds & Perennial Plantings

About This Service

A well-placed garden bed adds color, texture, and structure to a property at a fraction of the cost of a full landscape redesign. Little Tree Nursery designs beds around your existing landscape, soil type, sun exposure, and how much maintenance you're willing to do going forward.

We begin with an edging layout — defining bed shape and size against your existing lawn and hardscape — then amend the soil, install landscape fabric where appropriate, and plant a combination of native and adapted perennials chosen for your specific light and moisture conditions.

Wisconsin's growing season is short, so we select plants that deliver across multiple seasons: spring-blooming bulbs, summer perennials, and late-season grasses or sedums that carry color into October. We serve homeowners across Jefferson, Waukesha, and Dodge County.

How It Works

Our Raised Garden Beds & Perennial Plantings Process

  1. 01

    Design Consultation

We assess your sun exposure, soil type, moisture conditions, and how much ongoing maintenance you're willing to commit to.

  2. 02

    Bed Layout

We lay out the bed shape on the ground against your existing lawn and hardscape, adjusting until you're satisfied before we cut a single edge.

  3. 03

    Soil Prep & Planting

We amend the soil, install fabric where appropriate, and plant a curated selection of native and adapted perennials for your conditions.

  4. 04

    Mulch & Walkthrough

We finish the bed with a clean mulch layer and walk you through each plant — what it is, when it blooms, and how to maintain it.

Common Questions

Raised Garden Beds & Perennial Plantings FAQs

Do you use native Wisconsin plants?
Yes — native plants are central to how we design beds. They establish faster, handle drought without irrigation, and support pollinators without chemical inputs.
How long until the bed looks established?
Most perennials hit their stride in their second season. We design for a "good year one, great year two" result and set expectations clearly at the start.
Do I need to water after installation?
Yes, especially in the first month. We'll give you a simple watering schedule after planting to get your plants established before they're on their own.
Can you work within an existing landscape?
Yes. We regularly add beds to existing landscapes without disturbing surrounding plantings or hardscape.
What if I don't like a plant you've chosen?
We review the planting list with you before we order anything. You'll know exactly what's going in and can make changes before we begin.
