About This Service

A backyard greenhouse extends your Wisconsin growing season by months in both directions — starting seedlings in March and keeping greens and herbs producing well into November. Little Tree Nursery handles the full installation from site selection and ground preparation through final structure assembly.

We work with polycarbonate panel and gothic arch greenhouse kits as well as custom-built frames. Site prep includes grading, base material compaction, and either perimeter anchor or full concrete foundation depending on structure size and local frost line requirements.

Post-installation we can help plan your interior layout — ventilation ridge vents, automated openers, rainwater collection, simple drip irrigation, and grow-bench configuration. We're growers ourselves, so we understand what makes a greenhouse actually work long-term.

How It Works

Our Hobbyist Backyard Greenhouse Systems Process

    Site Selection & Planning

We assess potential sites for sun exposure, drainage, wind protection, and utility access, then recommend the best placement for your goals.

Common Questions

Hobbyist Backyard Greenhouse Systems FAQs

What size greenhouse can you install?
We work with structures from small 8×12 hobby greenhouses to larger 16×24 and custom-built production frames. We'll recommend a size based on your growing goals and site.
Do I need a permit for a backyard greenhouse in Wisconsin?
Permit requirements vary by municipality. Most small residential greenhouses under 200 sq ft are permit-exempt, but check with your local zoning office before we begin.
What foundation do you recommend?
It depends on structure size. Smaller kits use perimeter ground anchors. Larger or permanent structures benefit from a poured concrete perimeter — especially important in Wisconsin's frost zone.
Can you help with the interior layout?
Yes — we're growers ourselves and can advise on grow bench layout, ventilation positioning, and simple drip irrigation setup.
What growing season extension should I expect?
A properly ventilated and sealed greenhouse in Wisconsin can extend your growing season from roughly 4 months to 8–9 months — allowing March seedling starts and November production.
