Heavy-Duty Lot Clearing & Forestry Mulching

About This Service

Site preparation is where most landscape and construction projects either succeed or fail before they start. Poor grading means drainage problems that persist for years. Brush removal done with the wrong equipment leaves root systems that re-sprout. Topsoil stripped without planning leaves future plantings in subsoil that won't support healthy growth. We use Mecalac mini excavators — compact, precise equipment that can work close to structures and in tight spaces without damaging areas you want to protect. That precision matters on residential properties where you are clearing one section while preserving established plantings on another. We also run skid steers for larger clearing, grading, and material movement on open sites and rural acreage. The work includes raw land clearing for new construction, grading for proper drainage and positive slope away from foundations, brush removal and forestry mulching, driveway culvert installation, swale grading, and site prep ahead of seeding or sod. We have worked on suburban infill lots, rural acreage, and lakefront properties where grade and drainage are especially critical.

How It Works

Our Process

  1. 01

    Site walk

We assess existing conditions, what needs to be removed, drainage patterns, and the target grade and outcome for the site.

  2. 02

    Equipment selection

We choose the right equipment for the job — Mecalac excavator for precision work near structures, skid steer for open clearing and material movement.

  3. 03

    Clearing and grading

Vegetation removed, grade established to ensure positive drainage away from structures and toward appropriate outlets.

  4. 04

    Prep and handoff

Topsoil prepared for the next phase — whether seeding, sod, landscape planting, or construction. Erosion control installed where needed.

Common Questions

Heavy-Duty Lot Clearing & Forestry Mulching FAQs

What size properties do you work on?
We work on residential lots of all sizes as well as rural acreage. Our Mecalac mini excavators are particularly effective on suburban lots where space is tight and precision near existing structures and plantings is critical.
Can you fix drainage problems on an existing property?
Yes. Regrading for drainage is one of our most common requests. Low spots that hold water, poor slope away from foundations, and erosion channels are all addressable through targeted grading — often without disturbing the entire property.
Do you install erosion control after grading and seeding?
Yes. We install erosion control matting and straw blankets with appropriate seed mixes for Wisconsin growing conditions after grading work is complete. This is standard practice on any seeded slope or significantly disturbed area.
Can you install culverts for driveway drainage?
Yes. Driveway culvert installation — including excavation, pipe installation, and stone headwall construction — is part of our site prep services. We size culverts for the drainage volume of your specific site.
